这一家谱记录的对应记载是在路加福音 3:32。
喇合是马太所记载的第二位女性。她的故事记载在约书亚记 2 章和 6:22-25。喇合是神带领约书亚和以色列人进入应许之地时，耶利哥城中的一位迦南籍妓女。在以色列人过了约旦河进入迦南地后，所有的耶利哥人都在高高的城墙后战兢。
喇合却在隐藏以色列人的探子时表现出极大的信心和勇气。当她所在的整座城都在惧怕地违抗真神，准备与以色列人争战时，喇合却惊人地选择信靠真神的能力和良善。因她的信心，神不只存留了她和她全家的性命，还将这一迦南人纳入了弥赛亚的祖先名册。喇合的信心也在希伯来书 11 章中得到了肯定。将她玛和喇合包括在内，可能是马太显明耶稣不仅是以色列的弥赛亚，也是全人类弥赛亚的方式 (创世记 12:3)。耶稣的死和复活遮盖了全人类的罪 (约翰福音 3:16)。马太的家谱包括了外邦迦南人，这或许预指了耶稣的死和复活要拯救和祝福万国。
