保罗作为主的囚徒，出于爱向腓利门发出恳求（腓利门书 1:9）；他请求腓利门允许阿尼西母返回罗马（腓利门书 1:11-14），释放他（腓利门书 1:15-16），并免除他的债务（腓利门书 1:17-19）。保罗以另一种家庭般的认同称呼腓利门，称他为兄弟。是的，兄弟，让我在主里从你那里受益；在基督里使我的心焕然一新。
