箴言11章1节，所罗门写道： “诡诈的天平为耶和华所憎恶；公平的砝码为他所喜悦。”（第1节）在古代，商人们在市场上用天平和砝码来计量谷物、金属和其他商品。不公平的砝码可以让卖家在表面上公平交易的同时欺骗买家，因此，所罗门在本章开头就表明，上帝非常看重日常生活中的诚实。
这个问题远不止商业层面。虚假的平衡代表着任何为了私利而操纵现实的企图。它是一种试图扭曲事实、使其为己所用，同时又隐藏在表象背后的行为。《箴言》一贯教导我们，邪恶是对上帝旨意的歪曲，而弄虚作假正是试图通过不正当手段而非智慧和公义来获取优势的又一例证。
相反，祂喜悦的是公义的衡量。上帝喜悦诚实，因为诚实符合现实，并能保护人类社会。在小事上秉持公义，体现了敬畏上帝的心。这一原则贯穿整本圣经，包括弥迦书6章8节，其中呼召上帝的子民行公义；它也预示了耶稣的教导：在小事上忠心，在上帝的国度里至关重要（路加福音16章10节）。
