箴言11章28节，所罗门说： “倚靠自己财物的，必跌倒；义人必如青叶繁茂。”（28节）财富尤其危险，当它成为人们信赖的对象时。财富看似强大，足以取代信仰，但它无法承受信仰的重担。
倚赖财富的人终将失败，因为他将自己的根基建立在脆弱不堪的事物之上。金钱会消失，会失效，或者在终极现实面前显得无能为力。信赖金钱，就如同将希望建立在终究无法维系的东西之上。
相反，义人必如绿叶般繁茂。绿叶象征着活力、清新和持久的生命。义人之所以繁茂，是因为他们的根基在别处——在上帝里面，在智慧里，在义的道路上。《诗篇》第一篇也用了类似的意象，将树栽种在溪水旁。
