诗篇46:4-7宣告： “有一道河，这河的分汊使神的城欢喜，使至高者圣所欢喜。”（第4节）这里提到的河象征着神恒久的同在和祝福。在物质层面，神的城通常指耶路撒冷，它位于古代以色列的中心地带，是神的子民经常聚集敬拜的地方。在属灵层面，这描绘了主安稳的居所，使那些安息在祂里面的人得享永恒的喜乐。这意象令人想起基督的应许：凡信祂的，祂腹中必有活水的江河涌流（约翰福音7:38），象征着永不枯竭的属灵滋养。
