我凭着主耶稣确知深信，凡物本来没有不洁净的；惟独人以为不洁净的，在他就不洁净了。保罗说，虽然它认为食物没有不洁净的，但如果另一个信徒认为某种食物是不洁净的，那么这位信徒就不当吃。这是因为不出于信心的就是罪 (23 节)。所以，如果一位信徒吃喝他以为不当吃喝的食物时，那么吃喝这些物对他而言就是罪了。如果我们不能用信心做神认为对我们有益或可接纳的事情，我们就不当如此行。
我们希望做的主要事情是在爱中彼此服侍，这就意味着我们需要理解什么祝福人，什么伤害人，并努力祝福他们。你若因食物叫弟兄忧愁，就不是按着爱人的道理行。基督已经替他死，你不可因你的食物叫他败坏。
