在整卷书信，保罗多次认识到祷告的能力和需要。他鼓励在罗马的弟兄们为他祷告，并在本节提到两个具体要求。弟兄们，我藉着我们主耶稣基督，又藉着圣灵的爱，劝你们与我一同竭力，为我祈求神。首先，他能够脱离在犹太不顺从的人；其次，他为耶路撒冷所办的捐项可蒙圣徒悦纳。耶路撒冷是在犹太，耶路撒冷是城市，犹太是地区。保罗已经经历了一次在犹太逃命的尝试，他们很可能还想杀他 (使徒行传 9:23-25)。
