在基督教的信仰里，因福音的缘故，男人和女人在基督里有着相等的地位。有些学者预估早期教会 70% 是女性。当时的主流哲学是异教主义，而且在希腊文化中，女性并不像男性那样受重视。基督教开始传播后，宣称女人和男人一样，都是按神的形象所造，这在当时的文化中是一个全新的概念。
非比可能受保罗委托，将这封关键信件带给罗马信徒。保罗说，非比素来帮助许多人，也帮助了我。他要求信徒们按合乎圣徒的体统接待她 (非比)。这是基督教彼此照顾的美好榜样。在他的书信中，保罗不断地要求信徒彼此关心，他在写给加拉太的书信中说道，"所以，有了机会就当向众人行善，向信徒一家的人更当这样" (6:10) 。
