In Proverbs 10:30, Solomon says, The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not dwell in the land (v. 30). This proverb contrasts lasting stability with removal. The righteous are secure because they are rooted in what endures.
To say the righteous will never be shaken is to say their life has true durability. They may face suffering, opposition, and difficulty, but they are not ultimately uprooted because their standing rests in God’s order and favor. Their life is anchored.
The phrase will not dwell in the land would have carried covenant significance for Israel. The land of Canaan—the territory promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—was the place of inheritance, covenant blessing, and settled peace. To remain in the land was to enjoy covenant stability under God’s favor; to lose that dwelling was to experience judgment and removal. In the wider biblical story, this points ahead to the lasting inheritance God gives to the righteous in His kingdom.
