In Proverbs 11:18, Solomon says, The wicked earns deceptive wages, but he who sows righteousness gets a true reward (v. 18). Wickedness offers pay, but it lies about what it gives. It promises satisfaction and advantage while hiding the deeper cost.
The deceptive wages of wickedness are misleading because they do not deliver what they advertise. Sin appears profitable, but its gain is unstable, hollow, and corrosive. Proverbs consistently insists that evil’s rewards are temporary and misleading.
By contrast, the one who sows righteousness receives a true reward. The agricultural image is important: righteousness is planted over time, and its fruit comes in season. God’s world is structured so that what is truly good eventually bears fitting fruit.
