The Bible Says
Proverbs 11:28 Meaning

In Proverbs 11:28, Solomon says, He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf (v. 28). Wealth is especially dangerous when it becomes an object of trust. Riches can appear strong enough to replace faith, but they cannot bear that weight.

The one who trusts in his riches will fall because he has anchored himself to something fragile. Money can vanish, fail, or prove powerless in the face of ultimate realities. To trust it is to build on what cannot finally hold.

The righteous, by contrast, will flourish like the green leaf. A green leaf suggests vitality, freshness, and sustained life. The righteous flourish because their roots are elsewhere—in God, in wisdom, and in the path of righteousness. Psalm 1 uses a similar image of a tree planted by streams of water.
