In Proverbs 11:27, Solomon writes, He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who seeks evil, evil will come to him (v. 27). The direction of the heart matters. What a person actively pursues shapes the world he inhabits.
To diligently seek good is to intentionally pursue what benefits others and pleases God. Such a person seeks favor not in a manipulative sense, but because good aligns with the grain of God’s world. Favor often follows a life devoted to what is upright.
The one who seeks evil, however, invites evil upon himself. This is another example of moral reversal. The harm he intends becomes the harm he meets. Proverbs keeps reminding us that our pursuits are never neutral; they train our future.
