In Proverbs 12:22, Solomon says, Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who deal faithfully are His delight (v. 22). God does not treat truthfulness as a minor social virtue. He takes lying seriously because falsehood assaults the order He has made.
To say lying lips are an abomination to the LORD is very strong language. It means deceit is morally repulsive to Him. Lies do not merely inconvenience others; they contradict the God of truth and injure the trust on which human relationships depend.
Those who deal faithfully, however, are His delight. Faithful dealing includes honesty, reliability, and integrity in both speech and action. It is beautiful that God delights in such people. Their lives reflect His character in the ordinary transactions of daily life.
