The Bible Says
Proverbs 12:23 Meaning

In Proverbs 12:23, Solomon writes, A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly (v. 23). Wisdom includes discretion. The prudent person knows that not every piece of knowledge needs immediate display.

To conceal knowledge does not mean hiding truth in a sinful way. It means stewarding knowledge carefully, speaking at the right time and in the right way. The prudent are not driven by the need to appear impressive. They use what they know for good rather than self-display.

The heart of fools, however, proclaims folly. Foolishness spills outward because folly is loud, impulsive, and eager to be seen. This verse reminds us that wisdom often appears quiet, while folly often announces itself. True understanding is restrained enough to wait.
