In Proverbs 12:8, Solomon says, A man will be praised according to his insight, but one of perverse mind will be despised (v. 8). Human esteem, when rightly given, should follow wisdom rather than mere appearance. Insight is what makes a person worthy of real respect.
To be praised according to his insight means that understanding has visible fruit. A discerning person sees reality well, responds wisely, and becomes useful to others. That kind of insight naturally earns regard because it benefits the community.
The perverse mind, by contrast, twists reality and therefore loses honor. Perversion in Proverbs is not merely strange behavior, but a bent inner life that distorts what is straight. Such a person may seek approval, but ultimately becomes despised because his character makes him untrustworthy and harmful.
