The truth presented in Proverbs 14:5 reveals that A trustworthy witness will not lie, but a false witness utters lies (v. 5). This proverb is simple and direct, stressing the importance of truth in testimony. Words used to represent reality must be faithful to reality.
A trustworthy witness refuses to lie because truth matters more than convenience or gain. Justice and relationships both depend on truthful testimony. Faithful witness preserves community because it keeps judgment rooted in what is real.
A false witness, however, utters lies. The phrase suggests this is what false witness naturally produces. Deceit flows from a corrupted heart. Proverbs treats this as serious because lies distort justice, injure neighbors, and oppose the God of truth.
