The contrast set forth in Proverbs 14:6 by Solomon reveals that A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge is easy to one who has understanding (v. 6). The problem with the scoffer is not lack of access, but lack of posture. He seeks without humility.
A scoffer may ask questions, but he does not truly want to be taught. He remains committed to pride, so wisdom remains out of reach. Wisdom cannot be gained while the heart is committed to mocking what it is supposed to receive. This aligns with the Proverbs theme that scoffing closes the door to growth.
But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. The person who already has a teachable, discerning posture finds wisdom more accessible because he is ready to receive it. Understanding opens the way for more understanding. Humility turns wisdom from something obscure into something available.
