In Psalm 62:11-12, David, who ruled as Israel’s second king from around 1010 BC to 970 BC, concludes this chapter with a powerful declaration of God’s unmatched strength. He proclaims, Once God has spoken; Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God (v. 11). By repeating that he has heard God twice, David highlights the certainty of God’s sovereign authority and the complete reliability of His words. All other human power pales in comparison, for the One who created all things requires no external source to sustain His might. This verse reminds us that when we seek refuge, we ought to root ourselves in God’s power rather than human devices or personal ambition.
The psalmist continues, And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord, For You recompense a man according to his work (v. 12). Here, David underlines that the Lord’s abundant love coexists with His perfect justice. God not only possesses ultimate strength, but He also abounds in mercy toward those who seek Him in faith. Linking this concept throughout Scripture, we see proof in New Testament passages that affirm Christ’s expression of both compassionate grace and righteous judgment. God’s kindness extends freely to the contrite, but He will faithfully reward or discipline humankind based on their deeds (Revelation 22:12). In Jesus, we see the ultimate display of divine love and justice, as He both forgives sin and calls us to a transformed life of holy devotion.
