Contando com a sabedoria que Deus lhe dava, pelo fato de obedecer a Seus mandamentos, Daniel visita Arioque, o capitão da guarda do rei, que havia saído para matar aos sábios da Babilônia. Daniel pergunta a Arioque por que o decreto para matar todos os sábios era tão urgente.
A abordagem de Daniel é feita com discrição e discernimento, buscando diminuir a temperatura da situação, raciocinando juntamente com o capitão. O capitão Arioque explica como os sábios haviam falhado em dizer ao rei o que ele havia visto em seu sonho e o que o sonho significava. Daniel, então, pediu ao rei que lhe desse algum tempo a fim de que ele pudesse buscar a interpretação do sonho para o rei.
Como vimos no capítulo 1, Deus concede a Daniel favor e compaixão aos olhos do comandante dos oficiais. Pelo fato de obedecer a Deus, Ele dá a Daniel favor diante de Arioque, o comandante do rei. Daniel, portanto, pede a Arioque que consiga uma audiência especial com o rei para falar sobre seu sonho.
