Alguns comentaristas acreditam que uma nova seção começa aqui no versículo 28 e continua até 7:13. É o início do intenso confronto entre Moisés e Faraó e é o prelúdio das pragas.
Os versículos 28-30 são quase uma cópia exata dos versículos 10-12. Eles repetem a mensagem de que foi o SENHOR quem estava ordenando a Moisés que confrontasse o Faraó (Eu sou o Senhor; fale ao Faraó rei do Egito tudo o que eu falo contigo). A repetição aqui, logo antes da eclosão das pragas no Egito, mostra que Moisés está sob a autoridade do próprio Senhor.
Porém, mais uma vez, Moisés usa a velha desculpa: Não sou hábil na fala (literalmente "sou incircunciso de lábios") e pergunta ao SENHOR: Como, então, Faraó me ouvirá? A resposta do SENHOR a essa desculpa repetida está no capítulo 7. O SENHOR responderá a Moisés da mesma forma que respondeu anteriormente. O SENHOR fornece a solução na forma do irmão mais velho de Moisés, Arão. Porém, o SENHOR não tira a responsabilidade de Moisés.
