Seu nome significa "amigo". O filho de Reú, Serugue, é o nome de uma antiga cidade (Sarugi) a oeste de Harã, no noroeste da Mesopotâmia. A cidade de Sarugi, no Vale de Balikh, é o local da moderna vila de Suruc, uma das importantes rotas comerciais do Oriente Próximo (este provavelmente seja um vestígio do assentamento de Serugue na área noroeste da Mesopotâmia).
