Em Provérbios 10:12, Salomão diz: O ódio excita contendas, mas a caridade cobre todas as transgressões (v. 12). O ódio não apenas alimenta a hostilidade; ele instiga e inflama o conflito. Mantém as ofensas vivas e as transforma continuamente em novas ocasiões de divisão.
O amor, por outro lado, cobre todas as transgressões, isso não significa que o amor finja que o pecado é bom ou ignore a justiça. Significa que o amor não se deleita em expor, amplificar e instrumentalizar as falhas alheias. O amor busca a restauração sempre que possível, em vez da humilhação pública ou da vingança.
Esse princípio reaparece em 1 Pedro 4:8, onde se diz que o amor cobre uma multidão de pecados. O amor cobre porque busca cura, paz e reconciliação. O ódio continua reabrindo feridas, mas o amor escolhe o caminho que pode curar o que o pecado dilacerou.
