A advertência de Salomão em Provérbios 11:15 destaca que Quem serve de fiador por outro será prejudicado, mas aquele que teme ficar por fiador está seguro (v. 15). Este provérbio aborda o emaranhamento financeiro e o perigo de obrigações imprudentes. Salomão não se opõe à generosidade, mas faz uma advertência contra compromissos insensatos.
Se tornar fiador de um estranho significava assumir a dívida ou a responsabilidade de outra pessoa sem conhecimento ou relacionamento suficientes. Esse tipo de compromisso impulsivo expunha a pessoa a danos, pois atrelava seu futuro à incerteza, além de seu controle.
Quem teme ficar por fiador se sente seguro porque compreende os limites. A sabedoria inclui saber que nem toda oportunidade de parecer prestativo é, de fato, fiel. Uma boa administração exige discernimento, não apenas sentimentalismo.
