A sabedoria transmitida por Salomão em Provérbios 12:8 mostra que Segundo a sua inteligência, será louvado o homem; mas aquele que é de coração perverso será desprezado (v. 8). A estima humana, quando concedida corretamente, deve ser baseada na sabedoria, e não na mera aparência. A sabedoria é o que torna uma pessoa digna de verdadeiro respeito.
Ser elogiado por sua perspicácia significa que o entendimento produz frutos visíveis. Uma pessoa perspicaz enxerga bem a realidade, responde com sabedoria e torna-se útil aos outros. Esse tipo de inteligência naturalmente conquista respeito porque beneficia a comunidade.
O coração perversa, por outro lado, distorce a realidade e, portanto, perde a honra. A perversão em Provérbios não se refere apenas a um comportamento estranho, mas a uma vida interior deturpada que distorce o que é reto. Tal pessoa pode buscar aprovação, mas acaba sendo desprezada porque seu caráter a torna indigna de confiança e prejudicial.
