Em Provérbios 11:18, Salomão diz: O perverso ganha paga ilusiva, mas quem semeia a justiça recebe galardão seguro (v. 18). A maldade oferece recompensa, mas mente sobre o que oferece. Promete satisfação e vantagem enquanto esconde o custo mais profundo.
Os ganhos "enganosos" da maldade são ilusórios porque não cumprem o que prometem. O pecado aparenta ser lucrativo, mas seu lucro é instável, vazio e corrosivo. Provérbios insiste constantemente que as recompensas do mal são temporárias e enganosas.
Em contraste, aquele que semeia a justiça recebe uma verdadeira recompensa. A imagem da agricultura é importante: a justiça é semeada ao longo do tempo, e seus frutos aparecem na estação própria. O mundo de Deus é estruturado de modo que aquilo que é verdadeiramente bom, eventualmente, produz frutos adequados.
