A vívida imagem em Provérbios 11:22, de Salomão, ilustra que Como joia de ouro na tromba dum porco, assim é a mulher formosa que não tem discrição (v. 22). Este provérbio usa uma imagem marcante e quase chocante. O ouro é precioso e a beleza é uma dádiva verdadeira, mas quando a beleza é dissociada da discrição, o resultado é profundamente inadequado.
A comparação não é um insulto à beleza, mas um alerta contra a valorização da aparência externa em detrimento da sabedoria interior. Discrição é a capacidade de perceber corretamente e agir de forma adequada. Sem ela, a beleza se desvincula de seu propósito e contexto apropriados.
Os Provérbios frequentemente insistem que a vida interior dá sentido à exterior. Assim como um anel de ouro não pode transformar um porco em algo digno de adorno, a beleza exterior não pode substituir o caráter. A verdadeira atratividade, na sabedoria bíblica, inclui um coração formado.
