A advertência contida em Provérbios 11:28 mostra que Quem confia nas suas riquezas cairá, mas os justos reverdecerão como a folhagem (v. 28). A riqueza é especialmente perigosa quando se torna objeto de confiança. As riquezas podem parecer fortes o suficiente para substituir a fé, mas não podem suportar esse peso.
Aquele que confia em suas riquezas cairá, pois se ancorou em algo frágil. O dinheiro pode desaparecer, falhar ou se mostrar impotente diante da realidade. Confiar nele é construir sobre o que, em última análise, não se sustentará.
Em contraste, os justos florescerão como a folha verde. Uma folha verde sugere vitalidade, frescor e vida sustentada. Os justos florescem porque suas raízes estão em outro lugar: em Deus, na sabedoria e no caminho da justiça. O Salmo 1 usa uma imagem semelhante de uma árvore plantada junto a ribeiros de água.
