O princípio revelado em Provérbios 12:11 mostra que Aquele que lavra a sua terra será farto de pão, mas o que se entrega ao ócio é falto de entendimento (v. 11). Este provérbio retoma o tema da mordomia diligente. O trabalho fiel muitas vezes leva à provisão.
Aquele que lavra a sua terra cuida do campo que lhe foi confiado. Ele trabalha o lugar que Deus colocou sob seus cuidados e, por meio desse trabalho, terá pão em abundância. O versículo não romantiza o trabalho; simplesmente afirma a sua frutificação comum.
A pessoa que busca coisas sem valor, no entanto, carece de bom senso. Ela persegue distrações, fantasias ou objetivos vazios em vez de uma administração significativa. Provérbios adverte repetidamente que a carência muitas vezes está ligada não apenas a circunstâncias difíceis, mas também à atenção mal direcionada e à responsabilidade negligenciada.
