Born: April 13, 1808.

Died: December 27, 1894.

Blew was educated at Great Ealing School and Wadham College, Oxford, England, where he graduated B.A. in 1830, and M.A., 1832. On taking Holy Orders, he became curate of Nuthurst and Cocking, West Sussex, and St. Anne’s, Winchester. For a time, he also served as Incumbent of St. John’s near Gravesend. His works include:

  • Translation of Homer’s Iliad
  • Translation of Æschylus’ Agamemnon the King
  • Works on the Book of Common Prayer, including a paraphrase of a Latin translation
  • Breviarium Aberdonense (editor)
  • Hymns and Hymnbooks (a pamphlet), 1858
  • The Church Hymn and Tune Book (with Henry Gauntlett), 1852
  • Translation of the 1548 Altar Service of the Church of England
