Born: October 15, 1838, Nettlestead, Kent, England.
Died: March 31, 1904, Canterbury, Kent, England.
Cobb was educated at Marlborough College (1849-1857) and Trinity College, Cambridge, (B.A.1861, M.A.1864). He also studied music in Dresden, and assisted Professor George Macfarren in reforming the musical curriculum at Cambridge. A devout man, Clark considered entering the ministry, but decided against it.
Clark composed a setting of Psalm 62 for Solo Voices, Chorus and Orchestra, commissioned for the North East Choirs Association Festival at Ripon Cathedral in 1892; seven services, including the Service in C for Men’s Voices, written for St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle; anthems; the motet Surge Illuminare; glees; 20 settings for Barrack Room Ballads by Rudyard Kipling; and a Suite for Violin.
