Hultman’s family emigrated to America in 1869, and at age 16, he became a preacher. From 1906 on, he worked as Christian singer in Sweden and America and was called “the Sunshine singer.” In America, he compiled the hymn book Cymbalen (1885, 1888) and in Sweden Solskenssånger (1910-1939). In all, he wrote music for some 500 hymns.
