Son of a priest, Landstad was ordained in 1827, and worked in many parishes, spending his last years in Kristiania (Oslo). He worked on a hymnal for the Lutheran Church of Norway, known as “Landstad’s hymnal” (1869). He also published a folk song collection (1852-53).
