Ramsey was for many years a well known teacher near Bournemouth. A prolific composer of part-songs and pianoforte pieces, he also wrote hymns and carols, and on musical theory. He retired in 1916. In the last year of his life he was in poor health, but he organized and conducted a choral society in the village of Chichester.
