I will put hostility between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring.[fn]

“You have said, ‘I will cause you to prosper, and I will make your offspring like the sand of the sea, too numerous to be counted.' ”

Why was no one there when I came?

Is my arm too weak to redeem?
Or do I have no power to rescue?
Look, I dry up the sea by my rebuke;
I turn the rivers into a wilderness;
their fish rot because of lack of water
and die of thirst.
For the LORD will comfort Zion;
he will comfort all her waste places,
and he will make her wilderness like Eden,
and her desert like the garden of the LORD.
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and melodious song.
I have put my words in your mouth,
and covered you in the shadow of my hand,
in order to plant[fn] the heavens,
to found the earth,
and to say to Zion, “You are my people.”
“I will make your fortifications[fn] out of rubies,
your gates out of sparkling stones,
and all your walls out of precious stones.
Instead of your being deserted and hated,
with no one passing through,
I will make you an object of eternal pride,
a joy from age to age.
“Now pay attention: Today I am setting you free from the chains that were on your hands. If it pleases you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will take care of you. But if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, go no farther.[fn] Look — the whole land is in front of you. Wherever it seems good and right for you to go, go there.”
I will set my throne in Elam,
and I will destroy the king and officials from there.
This is the LORD's declaration.
“I will demolish the wall you plastered with whitewash and knock it to the ground so that its foundation is exposed. The city will fall, and you will be destroyed within it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
“I will judge you the way adulteresses and those who shed blood are judged. Then I will bring about the shedding of your blood in jealous wrath.
