Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds? ”
Above his head they put up the charge against him in writing: This Is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
When the woman saw that she was discovered, she came trembling and fell down before him. In the presence of all the people, she declared the reason she had touched him and how she was instantly healed.
“What is truth? ” said Pilate.
After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no grounds for charging him.
Pilate went outside again and said to them, “Look, I'm bringing him out to you to let you know I find no grounds for charging him.”
When the chief priests and the temple servants[fn] saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify! ”
Pilate responded, “Take him and crucify him yourselves, since I find no grounds for charging him.”
“Though they found no grounds for the death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him killed.
the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, directing that he be interrogated with the scourge to discover the reason they were shouting against him like this.
Wanting to know the charge they were accusing him of, I brought him down before their Sanhedrin.
“The accusers stood up but brought no charge against him of the evils I was expecting.
“After they examined me, they wanted to release me, since there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.
“For this reason I've asked to see you and speak to you. In fact, it is for the hope of Israel that I'm wearing this chain.”
Therefore, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.
and that is why I suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me[fn] until that day.
This testimony is true. For this reason, rebuke them sharply, so that they may be sound in the faith
