“You have heard that it was said to our ancestors, Do not murder, and whoever murders will be subject to judgment.

“You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

Now when he heard this, he said, “It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick.

“They don't need to go away,” Jesus told them. “You give them something to eat.”

“I tell you, not as many as seven,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven.[fn]

He responded, “Not everyone can accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given.

“Which ones? ” he asked him.

Jesus answered: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness;

“He answered, ‘I don't want to,' but later he changed his mind and went.

He replied to them, “Do you see all these things? Truly I tell you, not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down.”

When Jesus heard this, he told them, “It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

He was teaching them: “Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves! ”

Jesus spoke to them, “Isn't this the reason why you're mistaken: you don't know the Scriptures or the power of God?

When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to question him any longer.

Jesus replied to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a doctor, but those who are sick.

“A good tree doesn't produce bad fruit; on the other hand, a bad tree doesn't produce good fruit.[fn]

“But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We don't want this man to rule over us.'

John responded, “No one can receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.

“I can do nothing on my own. I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

The Jews responded to him, “Aren't we right in saying that you're a Samaritan and have a demon? ”

Jesus responded, “This voice came, not for me, but for you.

“You will never wash my feet,” Peter said.

Jesus replied, “If I don't wash you, you have no part with me.”

“I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word.

“Didn't we strictly order you not to teach in this name? Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood.”

“Therefore he also says in another passage, You will not let your Holy One see decay.

But Paul replied, “I'm not out of my mind, most excellent Festus. On the contrary, I'm speaking words of truth and good judgment.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel,[fn] because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.

For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

And it will be in the place where they were told,

you are not my people,

there they will be called sons of the living God.

I don't want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you will not be conceited: A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

The commandments, Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal;[fn] do not covet; and any other commandment, are summed up by this commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little leaven[fn] leavens the whole batch of dough?

For it is written in the law of Moses, Do not muzzle an ox while it treads out grain. Is God really concerned about oxen?

Now I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud, all passed through the sea,

We don't want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, of our affliction that took place in Asia. We were completely overwhelmed ​— ​beyond our strength ​— ​so that we even despaired of life itself.

I am not saying this as a command. Rather, by means of the diligence of others, I am testing the genuineness of your love.

For we don't dare classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. But in measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves to themselves, they lack understanding.

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

Don't you remember that when I was still with you I used to tell you about this?

For he has not subjected to angels the world to come that we are talking about.

For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm,

Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.

For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
