Then the LORD said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before me in this generation.
Abraham stepped forward and said, “Will you really sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
“You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won't the Judge of the whole earth do what is just? ”
“Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent and the just, because I will not justify the guilty.
“If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court, and the judges will hear their case. They will clear the innocent and condemn the guilty.
“How much more when wicked men kill a righteous man in his own house on his own bed! So now, should I not require his blood from you and purge you from the earth? ”

Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite from the family of Ram became angry. He was angry at Job because he had justified himself rather than God.
Could one who hates justice govern the world?
Will you condemn the mighty Righteous One,
Let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
but establish the righteous.
The one who examines the thoughts and emotions[fn]
is a righteous God.
I have been young and now I am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned
or his children begging for bread.
It is certainly not good to fine an innocent person
or to beat a noble for his honesty.[fn]
A righteous person who yields to the wicked
is like a muddied spring or a polluted well.
There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
yet is not washed from its filth.
I said to myself, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every work.”
Tell the righteous that it will go well for them,
for they will eat the fruit of their labor.
those who, with their speech,

who set a trap for the one mediating at the city gate
and without cause deprive the righteous of justice.
Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness,
you who seek the LORD:
Look to the rock from which you were cut,
and to the quarry from which you were dug.
After his anguish,
he will see light[fn] and be satisfied.
By his knowledge,
my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will carry their iniquities.
This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore their fortunes,[fn] they will once again speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May the LORD bless you, righteous settlement, holy mountain.'
And they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we don't act according to every word the LORD your God sends you to tell us.
“Now if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and acts unjustly, and I put a stumbling block in front of him, he will die. If you did not warn him, he will die because of his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.
“But when a righteous person turns from his righteousness and acts unjustly, committing the same detestable acts that the wicked do, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. He will die because of the treachery he has engaged in and the sin he has committed.
“When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and acts unjustly, he will die for this. He will die because of the injustice he has committed.
When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, he will die for it.
The LORD says:
I will not relent from punishing Israel
for three crimes, even four,
because they sell a righteous person for silver
and a needy person for a pair of sandals.
For I know your crimes are many
and your sins innumerable.
They oppress the righteous, take a bribe,
and deprive the poor of justice at the city gates.
This is why the law is ineffective
and justice never emerges.
For the wicked restrict the righteous;
therefore, justice comes out perverted.
Now Abimelech had not approached her, so he said, “Lord, would you destroy a nation even though it is innocent?
“Pursue justice and justice alone, so that you will live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding.
It is impossible for God to do wrong,
and for the Almighty to act unjustly.
“Your nakedness will be uncovered,
and your disgrace will be exposed.
I will take vengeance;
I will spare no one.”[fn]
You welcome the one who joyfully does what is right;
they remember you in your ways.
But we have sinned, and you were angry.
How can we be saved if we remain in our sins?[fn]
Yet it happened because of the sins of her prophets
and the iniquities of her priests,
who shed the blood of the righteous within her.
“He doesn't lend at interest or for profit but keeps his hand from injustice and carries out true justice between men.
Egypt will become desolate,
and Edom a desert wasteland,
because of the violence done to the people of Judah
in whose land they shed innocent blood.
So they called out to the LORD, “Please, LORD, don't let us perish because of this man's life, and don't charge us with innocent blood! For you, LORD, have done just as you pleased.”
“You must have a full and honest weight, a full and honest dry measure, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
