The one who leads the upright into an evil way
will fall into his own pit,
but the blameless will inherit what is good.
An unjust person is detestable to the righteous,
and one whose way is upright
is detestable to the wicked.
“Only see this: I have discovered that God made people upright, but they pursued many schemes.”
They will come weeping,
but I will bring them back with consolation.[fn]
I will lead them to wadis filled with water,
by a smooth way where they will not stumble,
for I am Israel’s Father,
and Ephraim is my firstborn.
“Today you repented and did what pleased me, each of you proclaiming freedom for his neighbor. You made a covenant before me at the house that bears my name.
