“Throughout your generations, every male among you is to be circumcised at eight days old ​— ​every male born in your household or purchased from any foreigner and not your offspring.

So Abraham took his son Ishmael and those born in his household or purchased ​— ​every male among the members of Abraham’s household ​— ​and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that very day, just as God had said to him.

And all the men of his household ​— ​whether born in his household or purchased from a foreigner ​— ​were circumcised with him.

“You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is just? ”

The LORD said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

“suppose the fifty righteous lack five. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five? ”

He replied, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”

He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and all the land of the plain, and he saw that smoke was going up from the land like the smoke of a furnace.

Then the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man in the land to sleep with us as is the custom of all the land.

Early in the morning Abimelech got up, called all his servants together, and personally[fn] told them all these things, and the men were terrified.

Then the servant told Isaac everything he had done.

Abraham gave everything he owned to Isaac.

So Abimelech warned all the people, “Whoever harms this man or his wife will certainly be put to death.”

Philistines stopped up all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the days of his father Abraham, filling them with dirt.

But Isaac answered Esau, “Look, I have made him a master over you, have given him all of his relatives as his servants, and have sustained him with grain and new wine. What then can I do for you, my son? ”

“Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

“This stone that I have set up as a marker will be God’s house, and I will give to you a tenth of all that you give me.”

But they replied, “We can’t until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone is rolled from the well’s opening. Then we will water the sheep.”

When Laban heard the news about his sister’s son Jacob, he ran to meet him, hugged him, and kissed him. Then he took him to his house, and Jacob told him all that had happened.

So Laban invited all the men of the place and sponsored a feast.
