“When men quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or his fist, and the injured man does not die but is confined to bed,
“When an ox[fn] gores a man or a woman to death, the ox must be stoned, and its meat may not be eaten, but the ox’s owner is innocent.
“However, if the ox was in the habit of goring, and its owner has been warned yet does not restrain it, and it kills a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned, and its owner must also be put to death.
“the owner of the pit must give compensation; he must pay to its owner, but the dead animal will become his.
“When a man’s ox injures his neighbor’s ox and it dies, they must sell the live ox and divide its proceeds; they must also divide the dead animal.
“If, however, it is known that the ox was in the habit of goring, yet its owner has not restrained it, he must compensate fully, ox for ox; the dead animal will become his.

Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair hang loose and do not tear your clothes, or else you will die, and the LORD will become angry with the whole community. However, your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may weep over the fire that the LORD caused.
“You must not go outside the entrance to the tent of meeting or you will die, for the LORD’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did as Moses said.
“You and your sons are not to drink wine or beer when you enter the tent of meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute throughout your generations.

The LORD spoke to Moses after the death of two of Aaron’s sons when they approached the presence of[fn] the LORD and died.
The LORD said to Moses, “Tell your brother Aaron that he may not come whenever he wants into the holy place behind the curtain in front of the mercy seat on the ark or else he will die, because I appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.
“He is to put the incense on the fire before the LORD, so that the cloud of incense covers the mercy seat that is over the testimony, or else he will die.
“If a man has sexual intercourse with a woman who is a slave designated for another man, but she has not been redeemed or given her freedom, there must be punishment.[fn] They are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.
“Say to the Israelites: Any Israelite or alien residing in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death; the people of the country are to stone him.
“But if the people of the country look the other way when that man[fn] gives any of his children to Molech, and do not put him to death,
“If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or mother; his death is his own fault.[fn]
“If a man commits adultery with a married woman — if he commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife — both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.
“If a man sleeps with his daughter-in-law, both of them must be put to death. They have acted perversely; their death is their own fault.
“If a man sleeps with a man as with a woman, they have both committed a detestable act. They must be put to death; their death is their own fault.
“If a man has sexual intercourse with[fn] an animal, he must be put to death; you are also to kill the animal.
“If a woman approaches any animal and mates with it, you are to kill the woman and the animal. They must be put to death; their death is their own fault.
“If a man sleeps with his aunt, he has violated the intimacy that belongs to his uncle;[fn] they will bear their guilt and die childless.
“A man or a woman who is[fn] a medium or a spiritist must be put to death. They are to be stoned; their death is their own fault.”
“He must not go near any dead person or make himself unclean even for his father or mother.
“They must keep my instruction, or they will be guilty and die because they profane it; I am the LORD who sets them apart.
“Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death; the whole community is to stone him. If he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death, whether the resident alien or the native.
“Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, but whoever kills a person is to be put to death.
“No person who has been set apart for destruction is to be ransomed; he must be put to death.
“Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever it is to stop at a campsite, the Levites are to set it up. Any unauthorized person who comes near it is to be put to death.
But Nadab and Abihu died in the LORD’s presence when they presented unauthorized fire before the LORD in the Wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests under the direction of Aaron their father.
“You are to appoint Aaron and his sons to carry out their priestly responsibilities, but any unauthorized person who comes near the sanctuary is to be put to death.”
