“Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are forcing to work as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant.
“Therefore tell the Israelites: I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from the forced labor of the Egyptians and rescue you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and great acts of judgment.
“I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from the forced labor of the Egyptians.
“I will bring you to the land that I swore[fn] to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD.”
But Moses said in the LORD’s presence, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, then how will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am such a poor speaker? ”[fn]
he said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I am telling you.”
But Moses replied in the LORD’s presence, “Since I am such a poor speaker, how will Pharaoh listen to me? ”
“But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.
“The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the Israelites from among them.”
“This is what the LORD says: Here is how you will know that I am the LORD. Watch. I am about to strike the water in the Nile with the staff in my hand, and it will turn to blood.
“But on that day I will give special treatment to the land of Goshen, where my people are living; no flies will be there. This way you will know that I, the LORD, am in the land.
“For this time I am about to send all my plagues against you,[fn] your officials, and your people. Then you will know there is no one like me on the whole earth.
Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron. “I have sinned this time,” he said to them. “The LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the guilty ones.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may do these miraculous signs of mine among them,[fn]
“and so that you may tell[fn] your son and grandson how severely I dealt with the Egyptians and performed miraculous signs among them, and you will know that I am the LORD.”
So Moses said, “This is what the LORD says: About midnight I will go throughout Egypt,
“All these officials of yours will come down to me and bow before me, saying: Get out, you and all the people who follow you.[fn] After that, I will get out.” And he went out from Pharaoh’s presence fiercely angry.
“I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night and strike every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both people and animals. I am the LORD; I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt.
“Consecrate every firstborn male to me, the firstborn from every womb among the Israelites, both man and domestic animal; it is mine.”
“On that day explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’
“When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of humans and the firstborn of livestock. That is why I sacrifice to the LORD all the firstborn of the womb that are males, but I redeem all the firstborn of my sons.’
“I will harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. Then I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So the Israelites did this.
“As for me, I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen.
“The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I receive glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
The LORD is my strength and my song;[fn]
he has become my salvation.
This is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
He said, “If you will carefully obey the LORD your God, do what is right in his sight, pay attention to his commands, and keep all his statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
“I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them: At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will eat bread until you are full. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.”
He sent word to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons.”
“Now if you will carefully listen to me and keep my covenant, you will be my own possession out of all the peoples, although the whole earth is mine,
“and you will be my kingdom of priests and my holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites.”
“For it is his only covering; it is the clothing for his body.[fn] What will he sleep in? And if he cries out to me, I will listen because I am gracious.
“Do the same with your cattle and your flock. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to me.
“Be my holy people. You must not eat the meat of a mauled animal found in the field; throw it to the dogs.
“They must not remain in your land, or else they will make you sin against me. If you serve their gods, it will be a snare for you.”
“Tell the Israelites to take an offering for me. You are to take my offering from everyone who is willing to give.
“You must make it according to all that I show you — the pattern of the tabernacle as well as the pattern of all its furnishings.
“Have your brother Aaron, with his sons, come to you from the Israelites to serve me as priest — Aaron, his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
“You are to instruct all the skilled artisans,[fn] whom I have filled with a spirit of wisdom, to make Aaron’s garments for consecrating him to serve me as priest.
“These are the garments that they must make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a specially woven tunic,[fn] a turban, and a sash. They are to make holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons so that they may serve me as priests.
“Put these on your brother Aaron and his sons; then anoint, ordain,[fn] and consecrate them, so that they may serve me as priests.
“This is what you are to do for them to consecrate them to serve me as priests. Take a young bull and two unblemished rams,
“I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar; I will also consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests.
“And they will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.
“Tell the Israelites: This will be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations.
