STRONGS G2375:
θυρεός, -οῦ, , (from θύρα, because shaped like a door [cf. Winers Grammar, 23]), a shield (Latin scutum); it was large, oblong, and four-cornered: τὸν θ. τῆς πίστεως, equivalent to τὴν πίστιν ὡς θυρεόν, Ephesians 6:16. It differs from ἀσπίς (Latin clipeus), which was smaller and circular. [Polybius, Dionysius Halicarnassus, Plutarch, others.]
