Bleek, Einl. in das A. T. § 206, p. 469, [cf. B. D. under the word Jeremiah]), Jeremiah [A. V. also Jeremias, Jeremy], a famous Hebrew prophet, who prophesied from [circa] B. C. 627 until the destruction of Jerusalem [B. C. 586]. Afterward, he departed into Egypt, where he appears to have died; [cf. B. D. under the word Jeremiah, I. 6]: Matthew 2:17; Matthew 16:14; Matthew 27:9 (in the last passage his name is given by mistake, for the words quoted are found in Zechariah 11:12f; [cf.
