The LORD God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
“In fact, God knows that when[fn] you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
“For I have chosen[fn] him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. This is how the LORD will fulfill to Abraham what he promised him.”
So they got their father to drink wine that night, and the firstborn came and slept with her father; he did not know when she lay down or when she got up.

Then the LORD said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,
“However, I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go, even under force from a strong hand.
But Pharaoh responded, “Who is the LORD that I should obey him by letting Israel go? I don’t know[fn] the LORD, and besides, I will not let Israel go.”
“Tomorrow,” he answered.
Moses replied, “As you have said, so that you may know there is no one like the LORD our God,
“But on that day I will give special treatment to the land of Goshen, where my people are living; no flies will be there. This way you will know that I, the LORD, am in the land.
“For this time I am about to send all my plagues against you,[fn] your officials, and your people. Then you will know there is no one like me on the whole earth.
Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long must this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Don’t you realize yet that Egypt is devastated? ”
“Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind because we will take some of them to worship the LORD our God. We will not know what we will use to worship the LORD until we get there.”
“But against all the Israelites, whether people or animals, not even a dog will snarl,[fn] so that you may know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it? ” because they didn’t know what it was.
Moses told them, “It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat.
“You must not oppress a resident alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be a resident alien because you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt.
When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said to him, “Come, make gods[fn] for us who will go before us because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt — we don’t know what has happened to him! ”
“Don’t be enraged, my lord,” Aaron replied. “You yourself know that the people are intent on evil.
“They said to me, ‘Make gods for us who will go before us because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt — we don’t know what has happened to him! ’
Moses said to the LORD, “Look, you have told me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor with me.’
The LORD answered Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor with me, and I know you by name.”
As Moses descended from Mount Sinai — with the two tablets of the testimony in his hands as he descended the mountain — he did not realize that the skin of his face shone as a result of his speaking with the LORD.[fn]
“He must bring an unblemished ram from the flock according to your assessment of its value as a guilt offering to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the error he has committed unintentionally, and he will be forgiven.
The LORD answered Moses, “Bring me seventy men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you.
“will ever see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have despised me will see it.
“Please come and put a curse on these people for me because they are more powerful than I am. I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that those you bless are blessed and those you curse are cursed.”
“but keep alive for yourselves all the young females who have not gone to bed with a man.
“or without looking drops a stone that could kill a person and he dies, but he was not his enemy and didn’t intend to harm him,
“Your children, who you said would be plunder, your sons who[fn] don’t yet know good from evil, will enter there. I will give them the land, and they will take possession of it.
“But your wives, dependents, and livestock — I know that you have a lot of livestock — will remain in the cities I have given you
“You were shown these things so that you would know that the LORD is God; there is no other besides him.
Someone could flee there who committed manslaughter, killing his neighbor accidentally without previously hating him. He could flee to one of these cities and stay alive:
“The people are strong and tall, the descendants of the Anakim. You know about them and you have heard it said about them, ‘Who can stand up to the sons of Anak? ’
“Understand today that it is not your children who experienced or saw the discipline of the LORD your God:
His greatness, strong hand, and outstretched arm;
“and a curse, if you do not obey the commands of the LORD your God and you turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods you have not known.
“and that sign or wonder he has promised you comes about, but he says, ‘Let’s follow other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let’s worship them,’
“do not listen to that prophet’s words or to that dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul.
