Hence, in particular
a. of aid, Exodus 23:5; Deuteronomy 22:4; 1 Chronicles 12:19 [1 Chronicles 12:18]; especially of God, Genesis 21:22 אלהים עמך, Genesis 26:3 ואהיה עמך, Genesis 26:33; Genesis 31:3, [H5978 Genesis 31:5]; Exodus 3:12; Joshua 1:5; Isaiah 8:10 כי עמנו אל [H5978 Psalm 23:4]; Psalm 46:8 [Psalm 46:7]; Psalm 46:12 Psalm 46:11]; [H5978 Job 29:5] + often (compare אֵת, Genesis 39:2, Genesis 39:3, Genesis 39:21, Genesis 39:23; Isaiah 43:5 +): so הִתְחַזַּק עם 1 Chronicles 11:10; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Daniel 10:21, עָזַר עם 1 Chronicles 12:21 [1 Chronicles 12:20], כי גם ידם עם דוד 1 Samuel 22:17; 2 Samuel 3:12; 1 Chronicles 4:10 (compare Exodus 23:1, and II. אֵת1a). c. If the common action be of the nature of a contest or combat, עִם is with in the sense of against: so often with נִלְחַם to fight, נִשְׁפַּט to dispute, נֶאֱבַק to wrestle, רִיב to strive (see these verbs), Genesis 26:20; Genesis 30:8; Genesis 32:29 [Genesis 32:28]; בּא בְּמִשְׁפָּט עם to enter into judgment with Isaiah 3:14 +, Job 14:3 (הֵבִיא), עִם רִיב לי׳ Hosea 4:1 +; hence, without a verb expressing the idea explicitly, Psalm 94:16 מי יקום לי עִם מְרֵעִים in the struggle with evil-doers ? Psalm 94:16b Psalm 55:19 [Psalm 55:18] כי בְרַבִּים היו עמדי for as many are they in combat with me, Job 9:14 אֶבְחֲרָה דְבָרַי עמו in the contest with him, [H5978 Job 10:17b]; Job 16:21; perhaps צָדַק עִם Job 9:2; Job 25:4 (compare 4b end).
