†a. עִם לְבַב פ׳, especially in Deuteronomy and the later Deuteronomic style, Deuteronomy 8:5 וְיָדַעְתָּ עִם לְבָבְךָ thou shalt know with thy heart, Deuteronomy 15:9 פן יהיה דבר עם לבבך בליעל a wicked thought with thy heart, Joshua 14:7 I brought back word לבבי עם כאשׁר; פ׳ לְבַב עם היה, especially of a purpose, 1 Kings 8:17 ויהי עם לבב דוד לִבְנוֺת וגו׳ i.e. it was David's purpose to build, etc., 1 Kings 8:18; 1 Kings 8:18; 1 Kings 10:2 (= 2 Chronicles 6:7, 2 Chronicles 6:8 (twice in verse); 2 Chronicles 9:1), 1 Chronicles 22:7; 1 Chronicles 28:2 (both based on 1 Kings 8:17, etc.), 2 Chronicles 1:11; 2 Chronicles 24:4; 2 Chronicles 29:10; rather differently, to muse or talk with one's heart, Psalm 77:7 [Psalm 77:6]; Ecclesiastes 1:16.

Metaphorically. together with = in spite of, notwithstanding Nehemiah 5:18 וְעִם זֶה (compare bdb076802 WAG ii. § 57; in Hebrew בְּ is the more usual synonym). — In 1 Samuel 16:12 אַדְמֹנִי עִם יְפֵה עֵינַיִם (compare 1 Samuel 17:42 עִם יְפֵה מַרְאֶה), if text correct, יפה must be a neuter substantive, with beauty of eyes; but read probably (Gr Bu) עֶלֶם a youth (1 Samuel 17:56; 1 Samuel 20:22) for עם (see HPS; CheExpos. T. x. 521 אַדְמֹנִי עֶצֶם, compare Lamentations 4:7).
