1 Now G1161 concerning G4012 things G1494 sacrificed G1494 to G1494 idols G1494, we know G6063 that we all G3956 have G2192 knowledge G1108. Knowledge G1108 puffs G5448 up G5448, but love G26 builds G3618 up G3618.
2 If G1487 anyone G5100 thinks G1380 that he has known G1097 anything G5100, he has not yet G3768 known G1097 as he ought G1163 to know G1097; 3 but if G1487 anyone G5100 loves G25 God G2316, he has been known G1097 by Him.
4 Therefore G3767, concerning G4012 the eating G1035 of things G1494 sacrificed G1494 to G1494 idols G1494, we know G6063 that [fn]an idol G1497 is nothing G3762 in the world G2889, and that there is no G3762 God G2316 but one G1520. 5 For even G2532 if G1512 there are so-called G3004 gods G2316 whether G1535 in heaven G3772 or G1535 on earth G1093, as indeed G5618 there are many G4183 gods G2316 and many G4183 lords G2962, 6 yet G235 for us there is one G1520 God G2316, the Father G3962, from whom G3739 are all G3956 things G3956 and we exist for Him, and one G1520 Lord G2962, Jesus G2424 Christ G5547, by whom G3739 are all G3956 things G3956, and we exist through G1223 Him.
7 However G235, not all G3956 men G3956 have this G3588 knowledge G1108; but some G5100, being accustomed G4914 to the idol G1497 until G2193 now G737, eat G2068 food as if G5613 it were sacrificed G1494 to an idol G1494; and their conscience G4893, being G1510 weak G772, is defiled G3435. 8 But food G1033 will not [fn]commend G3936 us to God G2316. We neither G3777 lack G5302 if G1437 we do not eat G2068, nor G3777 abound G4052 if G1437 we do eat G2068. 9 But see G991 to it that this G3778 [fn]authority G1849 of yours G4771 does not somehow G4458 become G1096 a stumbling G4348 block G4348 to the weak G772. 10 For if G1437 someone G5100 sees G3708 you, who have G2192 knowledge G1108, dining G2621 in an idol’s G1493 temple G1493, will not his conscience G4893, if he is weak G772, be built G3618 up G3618 to eat G2068 things G1494 sacrificed G1494 to G1494 idols G1494? 11 For through G1722 your knowledge G1108 he who is weak G770 is ruined G622, the brother G80 for whose G3739 sake G1223 Christ G5547 died G599. 12 And in G3779 that G3779 way G3779, by sinning G264 against G1519 the brothers G80 and wounding G5180 their conscience G4893 when it is weak G770, you sin G264 against G1519 Christ G5547. 13 Therefore G1355, if G1487 food G1033 causes G4624 my brother G80 to G4624 stumble G4624, I will never G3756 G3361 eat G2068 meat G2907 again—ever G1519 G3588 G165, so G2443 that I will not cause G4624 my brother G80 to G4624 stumble G4624.
