A Widow Sustains Elijah

1 Now Elijah ^H452 the Tishbite ^H8664, who was of [fn]the settlers ^H8453 of Gilead ^H1568, said ^H559 to Ahab ^H256, “As Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, lives ^H2416, before ^H6440 whom ^H834 I stand ^H5975, surely ^H518 there shall be neither ^H518 dew ^H2919 nor rain ^H4306 these ^H428 years ^H8141, except ^H3588 H518 by my word ^H1697.”

2 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to him, saying ^H559, 3 “Go ^H1980 away from here ^H2088 and turn ^H6437 eastward ^H6924, and hide ^H5641 yourself by the brook ^H5158 Cherith ^H3747, which ^H834 is [fn]east ^H5921 H6440 of the Jordan ^H3383. 4 And it will be that you will drink ^H8354 of the brook ^H5158, and I have commanded ^H6680 the ravens ^H6158 to sustain ^H3557 you there ^H8033.” 5 So he went ^H1980 and did ^H6213 according to the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068, for he went ^H1980 and lived ^H3427 by the brook ^H5158 Cherith ^H3747, which ^H834 is [fn]east ^H5921 H6440 of the Jordan ^H3383. 6 And the ravens ^H6158 were bringing ^H935 him bread ^H3899 and meat ^H1320 in the morning ^H1242 and bread ^H3899 and meat ^H1320 in the evening ^H6153, and he would drink ^H8354 from the brook ^H5158. 7 Now it happened ^H1961 after ^H4480 H7093 a while ^H3117 that the brook ^H5158 dried ^H3001 up ^H3001, because ^H3588 there was no ^H3808 rain ^H1653 in the land ^H776.

8 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to him, saying ^H559, 9 “Arise ^H6965, go ^H1980 to Zarephath ^H6886, which ^H834 belongs to Sidon ^H6721, and remain ^H3427 there ^H8033; behold ^H2009, I have commanded ^H6680 a widow ^H490 there ^H8033 to sustain ^H3557 you.” 10 So he arose ^H6965 and went ^H1980 to Zarephath ^H6886, and when he came ^H935 to the gate ^H6607 of the city ^H5892, behold ^H2009, a widow ^H490 was there ^H8033 gathering ^H7197 sticks ^H6086; and he called ^H7121 to her and said ^H559, “Please ^H4994 get ^H3947 me a little ^H4592 water ^H4325 in a [fn]jar ^H3627, that I may drink ^H8354.” 11 So she went ^H1980 to get ^H3947 it, and he called ^H7121 to her and said ^H559, “Please ^H4994 get ^H3947 me a piece ^H6595 of bread ^H3899 in your hand ^H3027.” 12 But she said ^H559, “As Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 lives ^H2416, I have ^H3426 no ^H518 [fn]bread ^H4580, only ^H3588 H518 a handful ^H4393 H3709 of flour ^H7058 in the [fn]bowl ^H3537 and a little ^H4592 oil ^H8081 in the jar ^H6835; and behold ^H2009, I am gathering ^H7197 [fn]a few ^H8147 sticks ^H6086 that I may go ^H935 in ^H935 and prepare ^H6213 for me and my son ^H1121, that we may eat ^H398 it and die ^H4191.” 13 Then Elijah ^H452 said ^H559 to her, “Do not fear ^H3372; go ^H935, do ^H6213 as you have said ^H1697, but make ^H6213 me a little ^H6996 bread ^H5692 cake ^H5692 from [fn]it first ^H7223 and bring ^H3318 it out ^H3318 to me, and afterward ^H314 you may make ^H6213 one for yourself and for your son ^H1121. 14 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, ‘The [fn]bowl ^H3537 of flour ^H7058 shall not be exhausted ^H3615, nor ^H3808 shall the jar ^H6835 of oil ^H8081 [fn]be empty ^H2637, until ^H5704 the day ^H3117 that Yahweh ^H3068 sends ^H5414 rain ^H1653 on the face ^H6440 of the earth ^H127.’” 15 So she went ^H1980 and did ^H6213 according to the word ^H1697 of Elijah ^H452, and she and he and her household ^H1004 ate ^H398 for many days ^H3117. 16 The [fn]bowl ^H3537 of flour ^H7058 was not exhausted ^H3615 nor ^H3808 did the jar ^H6835 of oil ^H8081 [fn]become ^H2637 empty ^H2637, according to the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 which ^H834 He spoke ^H1696 by the hand ^H3027 of Elijah ^H452.

Yahweh Returns Life to the Widow’s Son

17 Now it happened ^H1961 after ^H310 these ^H428 things ^H1697 that the son ^H1121 of the woman ^H802, the mistress ^H1172 of the house ^H1004, became ^H2470 sick ^H2470; and his sickness ^H2483 was so ^H3966 severe ^H2389 that there was ^H3498 no ^H3808 breath ^H5397 left ^H3498 in him.

18 So she said ^H559 to Elijah ^H452, “What ^H4100 do I have to do with you, O man ^H376 of God ^H430? [fn]You have come ^H935 to me to bring ^H2142 my iniquity ^H5771 to ^H2142 remembrance ^H2142 and to put ^H4191 my son ^H1121 to ^H4191 death ^H4191!” 19 And he said ^H559 to her, “Give ^H5414 me your son ^H1121.” Then he took ^H3947 him from her bosom ^H2436 and carried ^H5927 him up ^H5927 to the upper ^H5944 room ^H5944 where ^H834 H8033 he was living ^H3427, and laid ^H7901 him on his own bed ^H4296. 20 Then he called ^H7121 to Yahweh ^H3068 and said ^H559, “O Yahweh ^H3068 my God ^H430, have You also ^H1571 brought ^H7489 calamity ^H7489 to the widow ^H490 with whom ^H834 I am sojourning ^H1481, by causing her son ^H1121 to die ^H4191?” 21 Then he stretched ^H4058 himself upon the child ^H3206 three ^H7969 times ^H6471, and called ^H7121 to Yahweh ^H3068 and said ^H559, “O Yahweh ^H3068 my God ^H430, I pray ^H4994 You, let this ^H2088 child’s ^H3206 life ^H5315 return ^H7725 [fn]to him.” 22 And Yahweh ^H3068 heard ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 of Elijah ^H452, and the life ^H5315 of the child ^H3206 returned ^H7725 [fn]to him and he became ^H2421 alive ^H2421. 23 Then Elijah ^H452 took ^H3947 the child ^H3206 and brought ^H3381 him down ^H3381 from the upper ^H5944 room ^H5944 into the house ^H1004 and gave ^H5414 him to his mother ^H517; and Elijah ^H452 said ^H559, “See ^H7200, your son ^H1121 is alive ^H2416.” 24 Then the woman ^H802 said ^H559 to Elijah ^H452, “Now ^H6258 I know ^H3045 this: that you are a man ^H376 of God ^H430 and that the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 in your mouth ^H6310 is truth ^H571.”
