Athaliah Reigns over Judah

1 Now Athaliah ^H6271 the mother ^H517 of Ahaziah ^H274 saw ^H7200 that her son ^H1121 had died ^H4191. So she rose ^H6965 and caused ^H6 all ^H3605 the royal ^H4467 seed ^H2233 to perish ^H6.

2 But Jehosheba ^H3089, the daughter ^H1323 of King ^H4428 Joram ^H3141, sister ^H269 of Ahaziah ^H274, took ^H3947 Joash ^H3060 the son ^H1121 of Ahaziah ^H274 and stole ^H1589 him from among ^H8432 the king’s ^H4428 sons ^H1121 who were being put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191, and put him and his nurse ^H3243 in the bedroom ^H2315 H4296. So they hid ^H5641 him from Athaliah ^H6271, and he was not put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191. 3 So he was hidden ^H2244 away ^H2244 with her in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 six ^H8337 years ^H8141, while Athaliah ^H6271 was reigning ^H4427 over ^H5921 the land ^H776.

4 Now in the seventh ^H7637 year ^H8141 Jehoiada ^H3077 sent ^H7971 for and took ^H3947 the commanders ^H8269 of hundreds ^H3967 of the Carites ^H3746 and of the [fn]guard ^H7323, and brought ^H935 them to him in ^H935 the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068. 13 Then Athaliah ^H6271 heard ^H8085 the noise ^H6963 of the guard ^H7323 and of the people ^H5971, and she came ^H935 to the people ^H5971 in ^H935 the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068. 14 And she looked ^H7200, and behold ^H2009, the king ^H4428 was standing ^H5975 by the pillar ^H5982, according to the custom ^H4941, with the commanders ^H8269 and the [fn]trumpeters ^H2689 beside ^H413 the king ^H4428; and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776 were glad ^H8056 and blew ^H8628 trumpets ^H2689. Then Athaliah ^H6271 tore ^H7167 her clothes ^H899 and cried ^H7121, “Treason ^H7195! Treason ^H7195!” 15 And Jehoiada ^H3077 the priest ^H3548 commanded ^H6680 the commanders ^H8269 of hundreds ^H3967 who were appointed ^H6485 over the military ^H2428 force ^H2428 and said ^H559 to them, “Bring ^H3318 her out ^H3318 [fn]between ^{H413 H4480 H1004} the ranks ^H7713, and whoever follows ^H935 H310 her put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 with the sword ^H2719.” For the priest ^H3548 said ^H559, “Let her not be put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068.” 16 So they [fn]laid ^H7760 hands ^H3027 on her, and she arrived ^H935 at the horses’ ^H5483 entrance ^H3996 of the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004 and was put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 there ^H8033.

17 Then Jehoiada ^H3077 cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 Yahweh ^H3068 and the king ^H4428 and the people ^H5971, that they would be the people ^H5971 of Yahweh ^H3068, also between ^H996 the king ^H4428 and the people ^H5971. 18 And all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776 came ^H935 to the house ^H1004 of Baal ^H1168 and tore ^H5422 it down ^H5422; his altars ^H4196 and his images ^H6754 they broke ^H7665 in ^H7665 pieces ^H7665 thoroughly ^H3190, and they killed ^H2026 Mattan ^H4977 the priest ^H3548 of Baal ^H1168 before ^H6440 the altars ^H4196. And the priest ^H3548 appointed ^H7760 [fn]overseers ^H6486 over ^H5921 the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068. 19 And he took ^H3947 the commanders ^H8269 of hundreds ^H3967 and the Carites ^H3746 and the [fn]guards ^H7323 and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776; and they brought ^H3381 the king ^H4428 down ^H3381 from the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068, and came ^H935 by the way ^H1870 of the gate ^H8179 of the [fn]guards ^H7323 to the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004. And he sat ^H3427 on the throne ^H3678 of the kings ^H4428. 20 So all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776 were glad ^H8055, and the city ^H5892 was ^H8252 quiet ^H8252. For they had put ^H4191 Athaliah ^H6271 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 with the sword ^H2719 at the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004.

21 [fn]Jehoash ^H3060 was seven ^H7651 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 when he became ^H4427 king ^H4427.
