Selection of the Seven

1 Now in ^G1722 those ^G3778 days ^G2250, while the disciples ^G3101 were multiplying ^G4129 in number, there was ^G1069 grumbling ^G1112 from the [fn]Hellenists ^G1675 against ^G4314 the Hebrews ^G1445, because ^G3754 their widows ^G5503 were being overlooked ^G3865 in the daily ^G2522 serving ^G1248 of food.

2 So ^G1161 the twelve ^G1427 summoned ^G4341 the [fn]congregation ^G4128 of the disciples ^G3101 and said ^G3004, “It is not pleasing ^G701 to God for us to neglect ^G2641 the word ^G3056 of God ^G2316 in order to serve ^G1247 tables ^G5132. 3 Therefore ^G1161, brothers ^G80, select ^G1980 from among ^G1537 you seven ^G2033 men ^G435 of good ^G3140 reputation ^G3140, full ^G4134 of the Spirit ^G4151 and of wisdom ^G4678, whom ^G3739 we may put ^G2525 in ^G2525 charge ^G2525 of this ^G3778 need ^G5532. 4 But we will devote ^G4342 ourselves ^G4342 to prayer ^G4335 and to the service ^G1248 of the word ^G3056.” 5 And this word ^G3056 pleased ^G700 the whole ^G3956 [fn]congregation ^G4128, and they chose ^G1586 Stephen ^G4736, a man ^G435 full ^G4134 of faith ^G4102 and of the Holy ^G40 Spirit ^G4151, and Philip ^G5376, Prochorus ^G4402, Nicanor ^G3527, Timon ^G5096, Parmenas ^G3937, and Nicolas ^G3532, a [fn]proselyte ^G4339 from Antioch ^G491. 6 And these ^G3739 they stood ^G2476 before ^G1799 the apostles ^G652, and after praying ^G4336, they laid ^G2007 their hands ^G5495 on ^G2007 them.

Stephen Accused of Blasphemy

8 And Stephen ^G4736, full ^G4134 of grace ^G5485 and power ^G1411, was doing ^G4160 great ^G3173 wonders ^G5059 and [fn]signs ^G4592 among ^G1722 the people ^G2992.
